Protection of Wrist Area |

Industrial Manufacturers have found an area of concern we wanted to address in this issue of Safety Minutes. During normal working conditions, gloves and sleeves are used to protect employees from cut and abrasion hazards identified by management. Recordable accidents have occurred in which the Sleeves have moved exposing the critical wrist area (See insert A). The potential for serious injury in this region of the arm with the median nerve and tendons make it extremely important to assure this area is well protected.
Our solution to this issue has been two fold. We have extended the knit wrist on our gloves which will comfortably pull up over the critical area. Additionally we have our Abratex® Arm Guards with Thumb Slot. This sleeve goes on under the glove and the thumb slot prevents the sleeve from moving and exposing the wrist area (See insert B). The glove is put over the arm guard in case the glove gets caught in a machine. The glove will be able to be pulled off and not locked in if the arm guard was over the glove.
